Those Little Things!!!

Often times we let many things slip out of our sight, either consciously or unconsciously, thinking "it doesnt really matter" or "what's the big deal?". Funny enough, they matter much!
Some things mean a whole lot more to some people than others and because we are different, we react to issues in different ways. The same thing that makes someone laugh, makes another cry. Some take pranks seriously and are offended while others smile about it and move on.
A colleague's baby's birthday was on Saturday, Feb14 and the day before, we left the office happily, looking forward to the next day. Saturday morning came and I couldn't call to wish the baby a happy birthday but on my BBM status, I wrote "Happy Birthday baby girl". I also sent my colleague a message on BBM, wishing her baby well, only for my data to run out.
Later in the day, she sent me an underwhelming message, which to me, was shocking. I wondered what could be behind her reaction.
On Monday morning, we met at the office and I asked her why she sent me that message. To my astonishment, she bursted into tears. She then told me she wasn't happy with me because I didn't call her baby to wish her a happy birthday. I apologised immediately and on getting home, I sent her another apology message.
Thinking back, I did what I could and thought it was enough. I felt any other thing didn't matter because I sent her a message wishing her daughter a happy birthday and personalized my BBM status. To her, what I did was not enough. She expected more from me because she sees me more than just a colleague but as a friend and family.
It really got to me and got me thinking that some of these 'little things' may not mean much to us but they mean a whole lot more to people around us, people who are very dear to us.
Going forward, its best we always try to put the needs of people before us because it is another way of opening doors of blessings and opportunities to us.
Also, we should not ignore that person that wants just a hug, a smile, a word of encouragement, a prayer, an assistance, a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear, a cheering voice, a pat on the back or a lifting hand because those 'little things' are not really 'little', they make a whole and mean the world to someone out there!
Shalom!
