Joy: Good evening Samsoft
SamSoft: Good afternoon Sis Joy.
Joy: Glad to have you here on Worshippers Lifestyle
SamSoft: Thanks for having me.
Joy: Can you tell us briefly about yourself? Who is SamSoft?
SamSoft: Gospel recording artist, song writer, producer, motivational speaker.
Joy: Why did you relocate to the U.S at the peak of your career here in Nigeria?
SamSoft: I think it's by God's purpose because He made it possible by bringing the connections. It's all for the Gospel.
Joy: How was it like starting all over again in the U.S?
SamSoft: It was not difficult because I already got good experience from Nigeria and with the help of God, things went well.
Joy: Was it difficult to fit into their sysytem with your style of your music?
SamSoft: One good thing about music is that it's universal nature makes it easy to communicate with the audience, so it was quickly accepted with the anointing following the music.
Joy: I know your kind of music, the afro hip hop. I have had the opportunity to minister along side with you several times before you left Nigeria. Do you find it hard to carry the people along over there? How was the reception like when you first got there?
SamSoft: I was first observant , so I learnt quickly.
Joy:What inspires your songs?
SamSoft: The Holy Spirit , the Word, things around and testimonies.
Joy: One of my favourites is 'I AM'. What inspired the song?
SamSoft: If you listen well to the song, I Am sure you would understand clearly I'm singing about faith . I wrote that song in Ghana during a bible study on faith.
Joy: True. How do you see your career evolving, with constrast to other gospel artistes you have worked with both in Nigeria and your present location?
SamSoft: God has be faithful to me. I have worked with renowned gospel singers like Ron kenoly , Tye Tribette, Alvin Slaughter and many more. In Nigeria, I have worked with Panam Percy Paul, Asu Ekiye , Chris Morgan and so on. It has been a pleasurable experience.
Joy: Do you see yourself collaborating with any secular artiste?
SamSoft: If the secular artiste wants us to do a gospel song, YES!.
Joy: In your opinion, do you think its right?
SamSoft: There's nothing wrong with it when its in your team because them singing gospel is a good step for them. We are sent to the world not to the church for we are the church.
Joy: Having worked in the music industry for over a decade, what's the biggest lesson you've learnt?
SamSoft: Stay focused and don't be influenced by what people think. I am motivated by the vision God gave me.
Joy: What were the challenges you faced while you were in Nigeria and some you are facing over there?
SamSoft: The Nigerian challenges was financial, the American challenge is promotions but God has given me wisdom to handle it.
Joy: What will you say is the difference between the Nigerian and American gospel music industry?
SamSoft: America has strong media and church backups. For Nigeria back then, we didn't get such. I don't know about now though but I heard its better . In terms of talent, its looking good on both side....lol
Joy: Do you think we are getting better?
SamSoft: Oh yes, much better. Thank God.
Joy: You have developed a reputation for having high energy on stage during live ministrations. How do you sustain such high level of energy?
SamSoft: I get to aswer this question a lot so I wrote the song 'HOLY SPIRIT', which is being aired now in Nigeria. You can watch it on DSTV . My energy is from the holy spirit.
Joy: At what stage in your life did you realize you were called into full time singing?
SamSoft: I really can't pinpoint a definite time because I started singing in church at a very young age. That's when I knew I was called to sing. I started flowing in the calling from a very young age.
Joy: Do you wonder why God chose you to do what you are doing?
SamSoft: I used to, until I became mature in the things of the Lord. I discovered the meaning of my name, SAMUEL, and then realized the calling of God in my life because I saw and still see signs of God's hands upon my ministry.
Joy: When invited to minister, do you sing a particular song over and over again in all your concerts? Do you feel the energy all the time from the congregation, like we have heard this song before, or you do new songs?
SamSoft: For me I love doing new songs but most times, the Holy Spirit takes over.
Joy: What do your songs revolve around?
SamSoft: I sing about God's love, salvation and encouragement.
Joy: What do you perceive to be the Nigeria's greatest challenge in the gospel music industry?
SamSoft: Support from the churches and the Pastors because some don't believe in honorarium for Gospel musicians.
Joy: What is your advice to up coming music ministers?
SamSoft: I always tell upcoming artistes to follow their dreams, to be mindful of their dreams and protect it from being stolen or misused.
Joy: So should music ministers charge a particular amount when invited to minister?
SamSoft: YES! They should because we have staff that we pay, in addition to bills that follow ministry cost.
Joy: One last one. Any new album on the way?
SamSoft: Yes, I've got a new single 'JUMP' dropping soon. Its an afro style and very sensational. Be on the look out for it.
Joy: Thank you for the time. I hope when we call again, you will respond. God bless you.
SamSoft: Sure, anytime. Don't be a stranger.
My pleasure.
Joy: Where can we get you for bookings and for concert?
